TRAILWALKER 2011

A 100km non-stop team charity walk along The South Downs Way in aid of Oxfam and The Gurkha Welfare Trust

Trailwalker, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary, was born from a key part of the Gurkha’s military fitness and team training regime and today raises money for Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust. It takes place in 11 different countries with over 15,000 people taking part around the world.  This walk along the South Downs is the equivalent distance of two and a half marathons and an ascent/decent equivalent to climbing Ben Nevis and Snowdon.

The walk starts in Petersfield, Hampshire, at 6 am on Saturday 16th July 2011 and finishes at Brighton Racecourse the following day.  The Gurkhas play a major role in the organisation of the event, providing all the infrastructure behind it and offering training advice and encouragement to everyone taking part. The event requires teams of four to walk through the night to complete the course within 30 hours. The average time taken to date to complete the Trailwalker course is 24 hours.Last year 347 teams took part, raising a total of £912,000.
