Teams of four will walk through the night to complete the course in under 30 hours.

UK’s ‘toughest team charity challenge’ launched – a 100km endurance event along the stunning South Downs Way. Trailwalker, a non-stop 100km walk across the South Downs to raise money for Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust.

Trailwalker takes place on the 17th July, with a closing date of 31st May to sign up.

The weekend event is in its ninth year and the charities are aiming to get 2,000 people to take part to make 2010 a record breaking year.

The 100km walk starts in Queen Elizabeth Country Park near Petersfield at 6am on Saturday 17th July and finishes at Brighton Racecourse the following day. Teams of four walk through the night to complete the course in under 30 hours.

Oxfam’s 100km charity challenge takes place in thirteen different countries around the world with over 15,000 people taking part globally. Last year’s South Downs event saw 480 teams take part, raising a total of £1.3 million.

The event, which was once a key part of the Gurkha’s military fitness regime, is jointly organised with the Queen’s Gurkhas Signals, with funds being raised for both Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust.

Rick Lay, Fundraising and Communications Manager at Oxfam said: “Trailwalker is a really exciting challenge and completing the course brings a huge sense of achievement – not many people can say they have walked two and a half marathons, non stop! You obviously need to train for Trailwalker, but the great thing is that people can do it at their own pace so there’s no real barrier to getting involved.”
