    New technologies

I am very excited about my new mobile phone.  I can now track all my walks using the My Tracks application, I can count the calories I consume and burn and it even has a built-in pedometer!  I can see that these new applications will have great appeal for anyone interested in 'measuring' walking, especially the younger generation.. I'm bowled over by the new technology and would love to know your views....

Mobiles with GPS are great, but I did not know about the calorie counter!

Here is a map of a walk that was uploaded to our walking website, using OpenStreetMap and related software.

I am loving Buddy Runner - an application which works on a Google android phone which I am luck enough to have.  It really keeps me motivated to walk.  It calculates my calorie expenditure and even takes into account the increases and decreases in calorie expenditure according to elevation as it picks up a GPS signal.  All the info is sent to a dashboard which keeps a record of all my walks, including maps and pace etc.  There are other apps out there that work with other smartphones including iphones, but I particularly like this one.  I also like MyTracks, but it doesn't count calories.
