Great, you want to go for a walk!
Walking is something we can – and should – do every day.
Doctors tell us that walking for at least 30 minutes every day will keep us fit and healthy, help reduce our stress levels and significantly reduce our risk developing coronary heart disease, obesity and certain cancers.
Choosing to walk from A to B as a travel choice is often cheaper, more reliable and gives you options to enjoy other things at the same time too. Walking can also save time and help reduce your carbon footprint. Try substituting your shorter car journeys for walk trips.
The following pages contain information and links to enable you to take advantage of the thousands of paths managed as public rights of way by highway authorities in England and in particular routes which have been developed and promoted for recreation. We also give information about how to plan your active travel journeys and how to improve your health through walking.
We hope you enjoy your walk and that at the end of it you feel even better than you do today. Remember walking can give you more energy, reduce stress, better sleep and save money. It can also help keep your heart strong, blood pressure down, manage weight and reduce your carbon footprint. Knowing all that, can you think of a reason why you wouldn’t go for a walk tomorrow as well as today?
