There are a growing number of recreational walking websites offering places for us to upload our favourite walks or download other peoples. Below is a summary of the main ones. If you have a favourite you would like us to add please let us know.


National Trails

Natural England’s gateway to the 12 designated National Trails  in England


Defra

Defra maintains a database of 1,800 Conservation walks and rides throughout England.


Go 4 a Walk

Go 4 a walk lists over 13,500 walks and is full of walk ideas


The Ramblers' Association

The Ramblers’ Association encourages and provides recreational walking in both urban and rural locations


Walking Britain

Walking Britain contains 8,500 pages of walking information, mostly related to Britain’s National Parks.


Walking World

Walking World lists over 4,000 routes and provides detailed information and maps.  Access by subscription.


Just Walk

Just Walk - an annual sponsored UK charity walk for anyone wanting to fundraise for the charity of their choice.


Do It For Charity

Do It For Charity – comprehensive details of  walking events taking place all over the UK and abroad.


Nordic Walking UK

Although fairly new to the UK, Nordic Walking originated from summer training for cross-country skiers. The walking poles work by strengthening your upper and lower body, while improving the health of your heart and lungs.

Nordic Walking  increases the number of calories you burn by 20% compared with normal walking at the same speed. You can find your local Nordic Walking instructors on their website.


National Sports Foundation

The National Sports Foundation is a Government-led initiative designed to facilitate and encourage partnerships between private investors and community sports projects in England.


Sport England

A public body committed to creating a community sports development system - welcomes innovative projects that increase the number of people participating in sport.


Visit Britain

Although Visit Britain does not actively promote walking as an independent campaign anymore they do have useful statistics and research showing the markets for domestic and inbound tourism who are interested in walking when they are here.

Country Walking magazine’s website includes information about longer treks, walking holidays and hiking gear.

This site gives you access to Trail Magazine’s archive of over 500 trails covering the whole of the UK.


The Long Distance Walkers Association

The aim of the Lond Distance Walkers Association is to further the interests of those who enjoy long distance walking. LDWA is an association of people with the common interest of walking long distances in rural, mountainous or moorland areas.
By joining the LDWA, you will meet other like-minded long distance walkers and gain access to information on walking events and long distance walking routes all over the UK.  They frequently organise challenge events and publish a list of long distance routes.
